64 1/2 Pound Striped Bass

64 1/2 Pound Striped Bass

B E Bliss caught this 64 1/2 pound striper on a fly with a 10# tippet.

This striped bass was caught in 1973 on the Smith River in Reedsport, Oregon.

Rod was homemade, one piece, fly rod, about 7 feet long. Took 45 minutes to land in a 12 foot boat.

Striper Fly Fishing Record?

Jason's response:

Wow! What a massive striped bass, especially to be caught on fly fishing tackle.

Would that happen to be any type of a striped bass record for fly rod and reel or tippet category?

I'm sure sure it must have been heck of a fun battle while playing that big fish. Thanks for sharing. Old photos like this are always great to look at.

Striped Bass Record Confirmation

Have pics of Field and Stream certificate, certifying as to weight and length. Also pics of fish mounted, on the wall, with fly it was caught on in its mouth. It was featured in an Oregon news paper. And it was 10# tippet world record as well as west coast all tackle record.
